Introduction of NNAT and 1st Grade Math @HCSTC

Course Description This course is designed around but not exclusively for Fairfax County Public School NNAT schedule. Fairfax County 2023-2024 school year, the NNAT is scheduled on March 1-8, 2024. As a result, the first semester covers basic 1st grade knowledge, including addition and subtraction up to 40. Ordinal numbers, weight, Length and introduction of multiplication. The second semester before NNAT testing date, the course centers on NNAT preparation including in class practices and mock testes. After the testing date, the course continues to focus on the basic 1st grade knowledge, it covers basic multiplication, division, Time, Money and word problems etc. The goal of this course is not just to help our students getting ready for NNAT test but more importantly, at the same time, start to build a strong foundation of number sense and develop their math problem solving, critical and creative thinking skills and interests for their future years. Course Objectives: As a result of this course, students will be able to:

• Be prepared for NNAT test.

• Knowing number 1-100 addition and subtraction with and without re-grouping.

• Knowing ordinal numbers and basic ordinal number word problems.

• Understand basics of Weight and Balance

• Understand the basics of Length

• Knowing Multiplication, Division and Time Table.
