Abacus Mind Math Class

Dear HCSTC Community: For the coming Fall semester, we've been pondering to offer a new math class, Abacus Mind Math (珠心算）. Registration age requirement is 3rd grade and up. Attached is the introduction for Abacus Mind Math. Below is the link for the survey: The abacus is a calculating tool which has been used in Chinese history since ancient times. The abacus mental calculation is a system where users mentally visualize an abacus to carry out arithmetical calculations. The calculations can be made at great speed in this unique way. The Abacus Mind Math has been proven as one of the most effective methods for young learners to do mental math. Abacus learning not only helps with the basic calculations like addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division, it also helps children to: 1. Strengthen mental visualization 2. Sharpen concentration and strengthen memory 3. Improve academic results 4. Enforce problem solving techniques. In addition, children trained to use an abacus scored higher on IQ tests and other IQ performance. It can also boost the confidence of the child throughout their learning years.
